Belgium and Luxembourg The Blind Painters Foundation was preparing to bring the europartrain to Belgium and Luxembourg. Again, the europartrain should have had the function to break down boarders - internationally and within one nation. In Belgium, the combination of French and Flemish culture has its own problematic and was regarded as a new challenge. In fact, similar experiences occurred in Yugoslavia, where finally the strength of the project brought together the democrat City councils in Belgrade, Nis and Novi Sad with the socialist Railway company, to both work on a success on the railway stations. For tackling this problem in Belgium, a Walloon artist from Liege, a Flemish artist from Gent and a artist of non Belgian origin from Brussels was invited to represent the Belgian participation. The curators were Lino Poligato, Flux, Liege in collaboration with Pierre-Yves Desaive, Carlos Bacerra from Brussels and Piet Vanrobeys from Gent. Ambassadors in Brussels have been asked to take on the patronage for their national carriages. The Flemish Minister of Culture Mr. Bert Anciaux confirmed his patronage of the europartrain. The international artists were meant to work together for a period of two weeks in the train on the the working title 'Nomadic Territory'. The europartrain was meant to stop in Brussels, Sint-Niklaas and Knokke in Belgium and in Luxembourg City. The City Council of Luxembourg and Claude Frisoni, Director of Agence Luxembourgeoise D'action Culturelle A.S.B.L. was in strong support of the train. Promising collaboration with Patricia Lippert, Guido Wolff and Artline seemed to make a success of the europartrain in Luxembourg very probable. The Minister of Culture, Mme. Erna Hennicot-Schoepges, was the patron. Suddenly, the Belgium Railways (NMBS) was not willing to communicate with the Blind Painters anymore. Attempts of the Direction of Brussels 2000 Organisation (NMBS was main sponsor of Brussels 2000) and Mr. Jos Jabert, Brussels Minister of Transport to persuade the NMBS to communicate with us, repeatedly failed. Every body was puzzled. Did NMBS receive a telephone call from NS? |
